A Day of Beauty Everyday

In November of 2009 Thompson Chemists had just started to carry Leonor Greyl. Eager to try the line I took home some samples and spent a day pampering myself and snapping photos. See that original post here.

I try a lot of products for the store but Leonor Greyl has always been my favorite. Yesterday I cracked open a fresh jar of the Masque Fleurs de Jasmin and I was just so thrilled to go back to using it. The scent of Jasmine really does stay with you for days and my hair is smooth shiny and hydrated. ūüôā

If you follow our blog(s) you might have read about my first encounter with Philip B’s Anti-Flake Shampoo, way back in 2009 when my eczema first reared its ugly, inflammatory head.

Since then, with the help of Philip B, ¬†I have done relatively well managing the eczema outbreaks in my scalp. Lately however, I have just felt like my scalp was in need of a deep clean, as if there was build up accumulating that my gently cleansing shampoo wasn’t lifting. And so I decided to give Leonor Greyl’s Bain Traitant √† la Propolis a shot.

This shampoo is meant to treat dandruff and dry itchy scalp by gently and deeply cleansing. The shampoo contains propolis extracts, which act as a powerful anti-microbial and also garlic and horseradish¬†both of which are proven natural remedies for a variety of skin problems including eczema. And¬†don’t worry! You won’t smell like garlic and horseradish! The fragrance of this shampoo is very gentle and classy; it reminds me of some children’s perfumes we imported from europe many years back.

My first impression of this shampoo was that it was a lot soapier than other Leonor Greyl shampoos. I’m so not used to foaming shampoos anymore, I was a little surprised. BUT I realized that the foam was really doing its job and allowing the shampoo to penetrate deep into my hair and scalp with the first shampooing.

After rinsing and repeating I found my hair to be¬†squeaky clean, something I usually associate with cheap, Sodium Laueth Sulfate filled shampoos that leave your hair gross, dry and poofy, or at best artificially smoothed and shined with nasty silicones. Leonor Greyl is definitely not one of those brands. Firstly, they are 100% SLS free. paraben free and silicone free. Secondly, the extra cleansing in this case has a purpose: to remove excess dry scaly skin and build-up. I followed up with the Masque Fleurs de Jasmin and just let it air dry. (You, dear reader, might remember back when I had to borrow a hair dryer for another blog.¬†Nowadays I do own one, but I’m lazy and air dry as often as I can get away with…)

My scalp is clean and happy, and my hair too! I was expecting to need some kind of product or leave-in but it was just perfect! Looking back a I wonder how I could have ever doubted them!

Jack Georges Leathergoods (Emily’s got a new knitting bag!)

As soon as I saw the new Jack Georges Zip Top Totes I knew the slate colored one had to be mine. These extra large,¬†limited edition¬†totes are perfect for travel (from now on it’ll be my carry on!) and even better suited to my tendency to carry way too many knitting projects around with me!

Right now I’ve got my “Peachy Legwarmers”, my “Blueberry Hoodie” and 3 or 4 different swatches for future projects, all fitting comfortably in my new bag! And it’s a heck of a lot classier than my last beat up, worn thin, dirty, dingy, free-giveaway knitting bag!

My boss Jolie Alony has known all about Jack Georges and his fabulous leathergoods for more that 20 years, all the way back to her days working in her father’s luggage store. We at Thompson Alchemists are honored to carry a limited selection of his wonderful products, including the Spikes & Sparrow line, the extra large Zip Top Toes and a variety of wallets, passport sleeves and iPad cases!

Jack Georges stands behind the craftsmanship of his bags: each one comes with a warranty against defective parts or flaws. These bags are sure to please. Pick one up and you immediately sense the quality¬†of both the leather and the craftsmanship. I’m certainly sold!

The #1 Bestselling (and easiest!) peel ever by Dr. Dennis Gross

A while back the lovely people at La Bella Donna turned us on to the (wonderful) skincare line by Dr. Dennis Gross. Focused on preventing and reversing sun-damage, they also make the #1 selling at home peel, the Alpha Beta Daily Face Peel. There are a couple of things that set this peel apart from the rest of the pack. First of all, because it is meant for daily use it’s actually pretty gentle. It also focuses not just on peeling away the dull, dead, lackluster layers but also works to fight breakouts, calm redness and fights aging with antioxidants like Retinol, Ubiquinone, and Resveratrol.

I’ve been using it here in the store pretty regularly (although not daily…) and I’m solidly sold on it! I find it gives me better results than some of the 20-minute mask-style peels and it’s much gentler on my sensitive skin. Since I’ve been using it my smile lines have diminished and my pores are noticeably smaller. ¬†Hooray!

And my favorite part about this product is how easy it is to use. Just two steps! And the pads come pre-moistened and ready to use! Perfect for a lazybones like me!

La Bella Donna and Me, Take II.

Last March I wrote a blog about La Bella Donna, a line of soothing mineral make-up that I had fallen head-over-heels for. Just recently they released a new Liquid Minerals line and I just had to give it a try. Like the Loose Minerals, this stuff isn’t just make-up, its good for your skin! Some key ingredients include¬†Sodium Hyaloranate (tissue repair),¬†Aloe,¬†Fig (calming),¬†Squalene (moisture), Thyme,¬†Cucumber,¬†Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (regenerating, anti-wrinkle and anti-scar),¬†Sambucus Nigra Flower Extract (anti-inflammatory),¬†Jaminum Officinale (just like Clark’s Botanicals!), and¬†Ivy Extract (antimicrobial). All that good stuff means that it helps heal soothe and moisturize the skin while it covering up any blemishes you might have! Hooray!

I went ahead and completed the look with a touch of blush, eye liner, mascara and lipcolor.

What I’m wearing:

Loose Mineral Foundation in Marta, $55

Liquid Mineral Foundation in Marta, $58

Compressed Mineral Blush in Tangerine, $27

Eye Pencil in Brown, $22

Mineral Mascara in Dark Earth, $22.50

Mineral Light Lip Color in Nude, $24.50

Mineral Lip Sheer in Mandarino, $24.00

The texture is light and left my skin smooth and hydrated. Like the Loose Minerals I am very pleased to say that I can forget I’m even wearing it!
