Leonor Greyl is one of our favorite haircare lines at Thompson Chemists and Thompson Alchemists. It is a botanical hair care line created in1968 by Leonor Greyl & her husband. She was working as a beautician in Paris and he had knowledge of botanicals; together they created one of the first botanical hair care lines at time when many popular styles, such as the “bleach blonde” look, required a slew of harsh chemicals.
We carry Leonor Greyl at both Thompson Chemists and Thompson Alchemists, and we stock nearly the full range of Leonor Greyl hair products. If you don’t see a product that you enjoy from Leonor Greyl on our site or in our stores please inform one of our helpful staff members and they will contact you when it arrives.
Some of our most popular products from Leonor Greyl include:
Huile de Palme, a pre shampoo conditioning oil, is solid at room temperature and liquifies when heated under warm water.
Leonor Grey’s Magnolia Oil is a rich and thick body oil that is perfect for after the bath on damp skin.
The gentle Honey shampoo, Shampooing au Miel, can be used daily by the whole family.
Masque Fleurs de Jasmin is a great conditioning mask, good for all hair types
Masque a l’Orchidee is a conditioning mask for curly or frizzy.
Creme Regeneratrice is a conditioner for exceptionally dry, damaged or color treated hair.
In addition to shampoos and conditioners, we also stock a variety of styling products including:
Serum de Soie is a smoothing serum that can be used on wet or dry hair. Great for touching up and fly-aways after blow drying.
Eclat Naturel adds texture and prevents frizz. Use on damp hair for a smooth look or on dry hair for texture.
Lacque Souple is a soft hold hairspray, perfect for soft, touchable, long lasting style.

If you follow our blog(s) you might have read about my first encounter with Philip B’s Anti-Flake Shampoo, way back in 2009 when my eczema first reared its ugly, inflammatory head.
Since then, with the help of Philip B, I have done relatively well managing the eczema outbreaks in my scalp. Lately however, I have just felt like my scalp was in need of a deep clean, as if there was build up accumulating that my gently cleansing shampoo wasn’t lifting. And so I decided to give Leonor Greyl’s Bain Traitant à la Propolis a shot.
This shampoo is meant to treat dandruff and dry itchy scalp by gently and deeply cleansing. The shampoo contains propolis extracts, which act as a powerful anti-microbial and also garlic and horseradish both of which are proven natural remedies for a variety of skin problems including eczema. And don’t worry! You won’t smell like garlic and horseradish! The fragrance of this shampoo is very gentle and classy; it reminds me of some children’s perfumes we imported from europe many years back.
My first impression of this shampoo was that it was a lot soapier than other Leonor Greyl shampoos. I’m so not used to foaming shampoos anymore, I was a little surprised. BUT I realized that the foam was really doing its job and allowing the shampoo to penetrate deep into my hair and scalp with the first shampooing.
After rinsing and repeating I found my hair to be squeaky clean, something I usually associate with cheap, Sodium Laueth Sulfate filled shampoos that leave your hair gross, dry and poofy, or at best artificially smoothed and shined with nasty silicones. Leonor Greyl is definitely not one of those brands. Firstly, they are 100% SLS free. paraben free and silicone free. Secondly, the extra cleansing in this case has a purpose: to remove excess dry scaly skin and build-up. I followed up with the Masque Fleurs de Jasmin and just let it air dry. (You, dear reader, might remember back when I had to borrow a hair dryer for another blog. Nowadays I do own one, but I’m lazy and air dry as often as I can get away with…)
My scalp is clean and happy, and my hair too! I was expecting to need some kind of product or leave-in but it was just perfect! Looking back a I wonder how I could have ever doubted them!
